Explanation
A is correct: “represents”
“Ability” is the subject and “represents” is its verb. Standard English doesn’t put a comma, colon or semicolon between a subject and its verb.
Why not B, C or D? Each one splits the subject from its verb with punctuation.

Studying stops being the hard part.
I did one set every morning on the bus before first period. It's short enough that I never skipped it. By the time I sat for the real SAT, the timer and the Mark for review flag felt normal, so I spent my energy on the questions instead of the screen.
Comma rules were my worst area, and I kept guessing between the semicolon and colon answers. The tutor didn't just tell me the answer. It asked me what the subject of the sentence was, and after about a week of that I stopped missing them.
I had a prep book I opened maybe twice. Doing fifteen minutes on my phone is the first time I've actually studied consistently for anything. The science section practice helped most because I finally got faster at reading the graphs.
